Rose McGowan calls out Kamala Harris for accepting past donations from Harvey Weinstein

  • McGowan tweeted Harris had taken funds from convicted predator Weinstein
  • It was in relation to Harris’s California attorney general re-election campaign
  • One commenter revealed that Harris had planned to donate the $5,000 to a non-profit women’s rights charity

Charmed actress Rose McGowan criticized Kamala Harris yesterday for accepting donations from Harvey Weinstein in one of her past campaigns.

Biden named Harris as his running mate on Tuesday afternoon, making history by selecting the first black woman to compete on a major party’s presidential ticket and acknowledging the vital role black voters will play in his bid to defeat President Donald Trump.

Despite an outpouring of support from Hollywood on the selection, including from figures like Taylor Swift, McGowan, 46, expressed her concern on Twitter that Harris had previously accepted donations from convicted sexual predator Weinstein.

‘Did you return the money Weinstein gave you? @SenKamalaHarris How many predators bankroll you?,’ she asked in a retweet comment from Jeffrey St. Clair, the editor of CounterPunch.

Rose McGowan, one of the leading voices in the #MeToo movement, asked whether Senator Kamala Harris had returned money donated to her during her California general re-election campaign

St. Clair wrote: ‘It’s hard to say which is more revealing of the fatal rot at the core of American politics, the fact that Trump and his daughter sent checks to Harris’ campaigns or that Harris greedily cashed them.’

His comments were attached to a reveal from Washington Post reporter Matt Viser who listed President Trump and Ivanka’s donations to Harris’s California attorney general re-election campaign.

‘Donald Trump donated twice to Kamala Harris when she was running for reelection as California attorney general, according to state records,’ Viser wrote. ‘Ivanka Trump donated as well.’

The graphic, posted by Viser, said Trump donated a total of $6,000 to her campaign while Ivanka sent in $2,000.

After accusations of sexual misconduct against Weinstein surfaced in 2017, it was revealed that he had donated to several political campaigns over the years.

One commenter to McGowan’s tweet set the record straight, sharing an article which said Harris planned to donate the $5,000 she’d received from Weinstein to a non-profit women’s rights organization called Equal Rights Advocates.

‘Good,’ McGowan responded. ‘Still creepy. Everyone knew.’

The 46-year-old, who was one of the leading #MeToo activists after accusing Weinstein of sexual assault, also said she feared he would hire a hitman to kill her in the wake of her claims.

On British morning television programme Good Morning Britain earlier this year, McGowan also alleged Weinstein could be ‘one of the biggest rapists in history’.

Weinstein was convicted in February of sexual assault and rape, more than two years after allegations of the disgraced movie mogul’s sexual misconduct sparked the global #MeToo movement.

The 67-year-old producer was acquitted of the most serious charge of predatory sexual assault but faces a lengthy jail term that could be up to 29 years.

McGowan told GMB the guilty verdicts were a ‘huge moment’ and that she hoped it would lead to more predators being convicted.
