Anderson is a regular in Cannes and appeared two years ago with The French Dispatch and in 2012 with Moonrise Kingdom.
The plot is set in 1955 and focuses on a group of students and parents from across the country who gather in a tiny (fictitious) desert town in the American Southwest.
They arrive for the annual Junior Stargazers convention held in the basin of a huge meteorite crater, but little do they know, they are about to witness a world-changing event.
The official Cannes synopsis reads: ‘The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organised to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.’
