Manchester United legend Roy Keane has emerged as the leading candidate to become the next Salford manager after Graham Alexander was sacked on Monday. 

Keane was in attendance for the club’s 2-2 draw with Tranmere on Saturday, which proved to be Alexander’s final game in charge, and was sat alongside co-owners Gary Neville and Paul Scholes. 

The Mirror report that Keane has been looking to get back into management after working as assistant to Martin O’Neill for the Republic of Ireland between 2013 and 2018.
