Royal Ascot racegoers who took fashion risks

Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot calls for a bold fashion statement, but these photos prove that risks don’t always pay off when it comes to the style stakes.

From plunging necklines to overpowering head wear, these photos capture some of the women who didn’t quite hit the mark when it came to dressing for the occasion.

One glamorous woman appeared to struggle under the weight of her wide-brimmed hat while others had to readjust their dresses to stop their risque necklines from revealing more than they intended.

Meanwhile other edgy racegoers were spotted showing off sleeves of tattoos as they brought a rocker feel to the Berkshire course.

The third day of the five-day festival – the jewel in the crown of the British racing season – got underway this morning with a string of high-profile arrivals.

Made in Chelsea star Kimberley Garner led the way in a very plunging lace shirt, teamed with white trousers, while reality star Olivia Attwood was striking in a figure-hugging pink dress teamed with a Love Island inspired hat.

Others added an element of sex appeal to their outfits, with one woman stepping out in a disco inspired silver and blue sequinned gown, while another donned a daring red dress, slashed to the thigh.

Of course, elaborate millinery was very much the order of the day including a woman sporting a swarm of bees around a honeycomb, and another with a tropical inspired hat, complete with a toucan nestled among the blooms.

Visitors to the Royal and Queen Anne enclosures have to abide by a strict dress code, which does not allow bare midriffs or strapless dresses, but for guests in the Windsor and other enclosures the rules are more relaxed.

One woman pushed the boundaries in a floaty patterned wrap dress that was cut up to the crotch, almost revealing the black bodysuit underneath.

Meanwhile another couple took a risk with co-ordinating rainbow looks that certainly made them stand out from a crowd.

Others struggled to pair colours, with one woman finding her red hair clashing with her green dress and hot pink sunglasses.
