Royal baby name: Suggestions for Kate and William go wild on Twitter

James, Philip and Arthur are among the bookies’ favourites for the name of baby Cambridge – but these Twitter users had some rather more creative suggestions.

People from around the world have been taking to the social network to offer some very tongue-in-cheek ideas on what the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge might decide to call their newborn son.

Some joked they might want to try something with a distinctly British flavour like ‘Crumpet’ or ‘Opal Fruits’.

Others pointed out that ‘Prince Bubba’ and ‘Prince Baby’ would be perfect if the royals were looking to keep things simple.

Among the more adventurous alternatives were ‘Majesty’ and ‘Honour’, while classic choices like ‘Bob’ and ‘Dave’ were also thrown into the mix.

The standout suggestion from Twitter was ‘Princey McPrinceFace’ – reviving the success of the ‘Boaty McBoatface’ poll of 2016.

William Hill’s Rupert Adams said they had a very busy day with bets totally almost £100,000 placed by punters, with the 2-1 favourite Arthur and second place James 4-1, best backed.

Meanwhile Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: ‘Arthur might be the favourite with the bookies, but it’s actually James that’s the favourite with punters.

‘It’s interesting to see that Royal fans think the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge could name their third child in honour of Prince Philip.’

Arthur has a strong royal pedigree as it is one of the middle names of both Charles and William.

Arthur supposedly lived in the 5th or 6th century and is said to have unified the country and set up his court at Camelot before being killed in a final epic battle.

Once popular, the name fell out of fashion but has had a revival in recent years.
