Diana had always highlighted the importance of family, once describing it as ‘the most important thing in the world.’

And last summer Princes William and Harry shared a touching tribute to their mother to mark the 20th anniversary of her death.

In a rare interview, Harry said: ‘She was the best mum in the world. She smothered us with love, that’s for sure. I miss having that mother to… give you those hugs and that compassion that everybody needs.’

William added: ‘She was extremely good at showing her love, showing what we meant to her, what feelings meant and how important it was to feel. Even after 20 years, I still feel that love… that warmth which is a huge testament to her.’

Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge was born at the private maternity unit of St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, the Lindo Wing, at 4.24pm on July 22, 2013, weighing 8lbs 6oz.

The past 12 months have been an exciting period for George, from completing his first school year to once again joining his great grandmother the Queen on Buckingham Palace’s balcony to mark her official birthday.

The youngster has just completed his first year at school, attending Thomas’s Battersea in south London.

He even played a sheep in his school’s Christmas nativity play, and loves helicopters, flying and is obsessed with all things police-related.

George was last seen at the christening of his baby brother Louis at the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace on July 9, and in official photos marking the royal baptism.
