Royal Mail postman feeds his delivery to two dogs in Wales

A postman has been caught on video leaving a customer’s parcel in his garden only for it to be chewed beyond recognition by the homeowners’ Bullmastiff and Labrador dogs.

Stuart Evans and his partner Aimee Sheppard found the chewed up package in their outhouse in Wales after Bullmastiff Milo and Fox Red Labrador Digger had chewed it up.

And they now want an apology from Royal Mail after the gaffe was caught on their CCTV system.

Footage clearly shows the postal worker driving up their drive, getting out and then pondering what to do with the rolled-up tube destined for Mr Evans.

Instead of ringing the doorbell or posting a card through the door, he loiters for almost a minute and then simply pops it into the dogs’ enclosure.

Milo then carries it off in his mouth.

Veterinary nurse Miss Sheppard, 29, later found it chewed to smithereens in their enclosure, and the pair checked their CCTV to see what had happened.

Cleaner Mr Evans, 41, of Mold, north Wales, said: ‘It was unbelievable. He knew he was giving it to the dogs.

‘I’ve spoken to Royal Mail and they’ve said that if there’s nobody in they have to leave a card in the mailbox, so we can go to the post office to collect.

‘He obviously just couldn’t be bothered to write out the card, pondered for a moment and then fed it to the dogs. It’s just incredible.

‘We were both in but we didn’t know he was there because he didn’t even knock.’

The package contained vinyl transfers for Mr Evans’ work van.

The dogs chewed the cardboard container but fortunately weren’t injured by the plastic inside.

‘They ate the parcel and gave the contents a good chew,’ Mr Evans said.

‘It could have been anything – rat poison, screws and bolts, fishing hooks, anything.

‘We wondered why there was a parcel in with the dogs so decided to look at the CCTV to see what had happened.’

Lunchtime! Milo the dog had a good chew on the parcel after he found in the outhouse after the postman left it there. His owners found it later to their dismay

Mr Evans said he complained to Royal Mail but they wouldn’t admit the postman had fed the parcel to the dogs. Instead he said he left it on a side wall.

‘I was like ‘Are you joking?,’ Mr Evans added of the incident on October 14.

‘Imagine if it had been something precious. I could have been sifting through dog poo for the next week.

‘The dogs were fine, but it’s not the point. It’s the fact the postman represents the Royal Mail – what if he does it in other places?’

A spokeswoman for Royal Mail said: ‘We have apologised to Mr Evans, that in this instance, our postman did not leave his item in a safe place, placing it on a wall and one of the dogs took it as it fell off.

‘We have spoken to the postman to ensure this does not happen again. We are in contact with Mr Evans to resolve his complaint as quickly as possible.’
