Extraordinary footage has captured the moment passengers and staff on the Ruby Princess had a massive party even after concerns emerged there may be cases of the coronavirus on-board.

Kitchen staff were filmed dancing the conga in a dining room on the cruise ship on March 18 despite doctors having already reported sickness to authorities.

The vessel docked a day later in Sydney Harbour and nearly 3,000 passengers were allowed to disembark without health checks.

More than 600 passengers have since been diagnosed with coronavirus and 19 people have died.

Footage of the party has been given to homicide detectives, who are conducting a criminal investigation into why the Ruby Princess was allowed to let passengers off in Sydney.

‘The footage will be reviewed for Strike Force Bast investigators,’ New South Wales Police said in a statement.

The vision obtained by 7News shows passengers, including one who contracted COVID-19, in close quarters with kitchen staff.

It comes after New South Wales Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said it was likely a ‘crew member working in the galley’ of the Ruby Princess started the spread on-board.
