Ruby Rose reveals struggle to succeed in Hollywood

She’s Hollywood’s hottest property, starring in the highly-anticipated Pitch Perfect 3.

But three years ago Ruby Rose, 31, was an MTV Australian VJ, leaving the country for the United States after believing local audiences were sick of her.

‘I had everything against me from a young age,’ Ruby told The Daily Telegraph on Thursday.

Ruby is back in Australia this week promoting her new role as ambassador for makeup line Urban Decay.

The actress was accompanied on her trip home by girlfriend and The Veronicas singer Jess Origliasso. 

Speaking to News Corp, the stunning actress revealed achieving success in Hollywood had once seemed impossible.

‘It’s hard work,’ Ruby confessed. 

‘I had everything against me from a young age. For me to be where I am seems impossible looking back.’ 

She credited the success of Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman and Rebel Wilson for making it easier for her to succeed overseas.  

It comes as the Hollywood star previously revealed she had left Australia because she thought local audiences hated her and she had done everything she could.

‘I had a clothing brand, a radio show, I hosted my own TV show, there wasn’t really anything I wasn’t doing. My relationship when I left was like ”oh my god, they hate me”,’ Ruby said. 

Ruby rose to fame locally when she became an MTV VJ in 2007, but left Australia for the US in 2014.

She scored breakout success with a role in Orange Is The New Black in 2015, later going on to star in action flicks xXx: Return of Xander Cage and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
