  •  He also had marijuana on him while he was driving unsupervised on his L-plates
  •  His license has been disqualified for nine months

A learner driver with three previous driving offences has been caught drink driving unsupervised and in possession of drugs after he smashed his car into a gutter.

Ry Owen Latimer, 33, had never held a full license before his crash on Parker St, Maroochydore on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on May 2.

Latimer was ‘blind drunk’ when he blew an 0.18 on a breathalyser and was also caught with a sealed bag of marijuana.

The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.05.

At the scene of the crash there was a 10m gouge in the paving that led up to Latimer’s blue Mazda.

The disfigured car had one of its wheels knocked off its rim while another was bent inwards.

Defence lawyer Chris Lummy told the court his client made admissions to police while ‘blind drunk’.

Police prosecutor Vicki Kennedy Grills told the court Latimer was standing in the middle of the road, yelling and screaming when they were called to the scene around 9.45pm.

The L-plater was heard saying he was ‘having the worst day of his life’ the Sunshine Coast Daily reported.

Snr Sgt Kennedy told the court Latimer attempted to hide the marijuana before yelling ‘Ah f*** it’ and dropping it on the ground.

Latimer told police he was aware his car was faulty but he drove it anyway.

The 33-year-old also said he didn’t need a license as he didn’t drive too often.

Magistrate Maxine Baldwin stated he had been caught driving without supervision multiples times before in 2008, 2010 and 2011.

The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to driving an unsafe vehicle with a blood alcohol content level of 0.18, failing to comply with his learner’s licence and possessing dangerous drugs, at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday.

Latimer sobered up six hours after he was taken by police and has been fined a total $1200 for the driving offences and a further $300 for possessing marijuana on Thursday.

His licence has been disqualified for nine months.
