Ryan Giggs sends message to boy put in coma by thugs

Ryan Giggs has sent a message of support to a ‘desperately ill’ teenage football fan who woke up from a coma after being brutally attacked.

Criminology student Ifan Owens, 19, was left in intensive care after being set upon by a group of men during a night out in a seaside town in Wales.

His family said he was ‘desperately ill’ and feared he may never recover because his head injuries were so serious.

But Ifan did wake up from his coma at University Hospital Wales in Cardiff.

And now he has been sent well wishes from Wales’ new football boss Ryan Giggs.

He said: ‘Fantastic news Ifan that you are on the speedy road to recovery. Keep getting better. We are thinking of you. Hope to see you soon among the Red Wall.’

Ifan’s dad Gareth Owens said his son’s progress was ‘unexpected’ and he was now breathing without a ventilator and sticking his tongue out on command.

He was in his second year of a criminology degree at Aberystwyth University when he was attacked in the early hours of Sunday January 14 in the town’s high street.

‘We would really like to speak to him to see if he can help in any way with our investigation.

‘Anyone else who has not yet come forward who was in the High Street area between 12.45am and 2.30am and has information or footage of the incident, please get in touch.’
