Ryan Phillippe celebrates his sobreity… stating it’s the longest he’s gone without nicotine or marijuana in his system since he was a teenager

Ryan Phillippe is heading into the weekend by celebrating a new milestone in his sobriety journey.

The 49-year-old actor – who was spotted buying Powerball tickets for the $1 billion jackpot in July – shared a selfie on Instagram, revealing this is the longest he’s been sober since he was a teenager.

The I Know What You Did Last Summer star was donning aviator shades, a sleeveless white shirt with a Laval utility bag slung from his shoulder.

He also donned several bracelets with white earbuds with a toothpick in his mouth for the selfie.

‘Officially the longest I’ve gone since I was a teen without some kind of nicotine or marijuana in my system(among other things…),’ Phillippe began.

‘Feeling thankful for the freedom that comes with breaking addictions and dependency on substance,’ he added.

‘Sobriety, clarity, and spiritual connectedness feels real good,’ he concluded, along with a prayer hands emoji.

He also shared the snap to his Instagram story, joking about his only two remaining ‘addictions.’

‘My only remaining addictions are toothpicks and self-improvement,’ the actor joked on his Story post.

While it’s unclear when exactly Phillippe went sober, he opened up about battling addiction and depression in a September 2017 issue of Women’s Health.

‘I think people fear being stigmatized or treated in a blanket fashion, which is sometimes the response to someone who says, ‘I struggle with depression,’ he said.

‘But really, depression could manifest in a thousand different ways depending on who it is,’ he added.

The actor admitted, ‘I don’t think there’s any reason not to talk about it. We can help each other cope and give tools that we learn along the way.’

He added, ‘I talk to myself quite often. I’m constantly talking things through in my head. I took a trip to Thailand, and I had such an amazing experience.’

‘Since then, I’ve been reading a ton of Eastern philosophy about giving up some of the superficial things we’re attached to, which I’m trying to do,’ he said.

‘I also have issues with patience and depression, and I’m thinking about how to focus and steady myself and be kinder and better. Meditation and exercise work for me,’ he admitted.

Phillippe will next be seen in the upcoming movie Miranda’s Victim with Abigail Breslin, Mireille Enos and Donald Sutherland, in theaters November 30.
