Ryan Reynolds gatecrashes Ben Foster’s press conference to demand his shirt after Wrexham promotion

‘Foster… jersey, NOW!’ Ryan Reynolds hilariously gatecrashes his goalkeeper’s post-match press conference to demand his shirt as he revels in Wrexham’s wild celebrations after securing promotion to the Football League

Wrexham’s Hollywood owner Ryan Reynolds interrupted Ben Foster’s post-match press conference to demand his goalkeeper’s shirt after the Welsh club sealed their promotion to League Two on Saturday evening.

Needing a win to wrap up top spot in the National League, Wrexham came from behind to beat Boreham Wood 3-1, sparking jubilant scenes at The Racecourse Ground. Fans ran onto the pitch to celebrate with their heroes, and it wasn’t long before Reynolds and fellow co-owner Rob McElhenney joined them.

After lifting the league trophy in front of their adoring supporters, Wrexham’s players headed back inside to complete their media duties with Foster and team-mate Elliot Lee speaking to journalists.

But they didn’t get to answer many questions before Reynolds gatecrashed the press conference to make a hilarious request.

‘Foster, Foster… jersey, now!’ Reynolds said as he approached Foster.

A grinning Foster replied: ‘It stinks by the way’, but Reynolds wasn’t taking no for an answer as he responded ‘I do not care!’

Not wanting Lee to feel left out, Reynolds then turned his attention to the forward asking: ‘Are you wearing an undershirt?’ When Lee confirmed he was, Reynolds quickly added ‘give me your jersey!’

A journalist cheekily asked Reynolds if he was planning to sell the shirts on eBay, to which the Deadpool actor joked that he had ‘fallen on hard times’.

Foster revealed afterwards that Reynolds had messaged him before the game to let him know he wanted his shirt, as he hailed the club’s owners for their positive influence on the team.

‘He text me for that earlier, he was so hungry for that shirt. He was saying make sure you don’t throw it into the crowd after the game,’ Foster said.

‘They are brilliant, they love it, they are fully in. They are like one of the boys at times, they won’t come shouting and raving.

‘They come in and get behind the lads. You are not always going to win, you’re not always going to play 10 out of 10, you’re not going to always smash teams out of the park. They understand that sport is a game where the opposition want to win as much as you do. That is the beauty of what they do, they don’t expect instant results.’

Reynolds and Foster have struck up a special bond since the former Premier League shot-stopper came out of retirement to sign for Wrexham last month.

Foster made a crucial last-minute penalty save to help Wrexham to a dramatic 3-2 win over title rivals Notts County earlier this month to the delight of Reynolds.

The pair were seen sharing a hug after that game, and Foster has continued to play a key role in Wrexham’s promotion push, with the club finally returning to the Football League for the first time in 15 years.
