Sabrina Carpenter forced to cancel concert after ‘credible’ bomb threat at Portland venue

Sabrina Carpenter’s concert at the Keller Auditorium in Portland, Oregon was unexpectedly canceled on Monday night due to a bomb threat at a nearby venue.

Both the show’s promoter and the city police revealed that concertgoers were asked to go home when a different venue received a ‘credible security threat’, according to Rolling Stone.

The Nonsense singer, 23, was originally scheduled to perform at the Crystal Ballroom — the location that received the threat — but announced a change in venue to accommodate more attendees.

Despite the venue change, Carpenter and her team decided to cancel the show — as part of her Emails I Can’t Send tour — before she even took the stage ‘out of an abundance of caution’ and for the safety of her fans.

The actress — who was previously rumored to be dating Shawn Mendes — later took to social media to apologize and notify her fans that the concert will likely be rescheduled.

Canceled show: Sabrina Carpenter’s concert at the Keller Auditorium in Portland, Oregon was unexpectedly canceled on Monday night due to a bomb threat at a nearby venue

After her opening act Spill Tab performed, fans were waiting in anticipation of Carpenter.

An hour after she was set to take the stage, however, a venue staff member appeared instead to announce that she would not be performing.

Concertgoers were then asked to go home but were not told the reason for the cancellation.

Earlier in the day, fans with VIP packages had attended Carpenter’s soundcheck.

A day after, authorities finally revealed why the show was canceled.

The Portland Police Bureau told Rolling Stone that an anonymous threat was made to the venue that Carpenter was originally scheduled to perform at.

‘Employees with the Crystal Ballroom called after they received a phone call from an anonymous person claiming they were going to blow up the venue,’ the police revealed to Rolling Stone.

The event promoter, AEG Presents, also stated: ‘While the threat was not directed at Keller Auditorium specifically, Sabrina and event organizers agreed that out of an abundance of caution, the show will be called off.’

All concertgoers were evacuated from the venue, they said. ‘Steps were taken to ensure that the audience exited the venue calmly, quickly, and safely.’

That night, Portland police had reportedly conducted extra patrols around both venues and cleared the area.

The authorities have not yet revealed if a suspect has been identified.

The Tall Girl actress apologized to her fans via social media and explained the concert was ultimately canceled ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’.

‘I can’t tell you how much it breaks my heart,’ her statement began. ‘This is the last thing I wanted to do but due to unforeseen circumstances we will not be able to perform tonight.’

She also wrote that refunds will be issued to all original ticket holders and she plans to return to Portland for a rescheduled concert in the future.

‘You will be refunded,’ she added. ‘Refunds will come at point of purchase and we are doing our best to reschedule at a later date.

The venue is closed for the evening,’ she continued. ‘Please take care of yourselves and return home safely! I am so sorry. I love you very much’.
