Sailor dies after his yacht capsizes near Sydney beach – as brave woman who swam to shore and alerted authorities is rushed to hospital

A man has died after a sailing boat capsized in choppy seas off a Sydney beach this morning.

A woman who swam to shore alerted emergency services of the capsized vessel at Boat Harbour, near Kurnell, about 5am on Monday.

Water police and an ambulance helicopter desperately worked to search for the man, whose body was tragically found at 5.48am near Wanda Beach.

The man was winched to shore by the NSW Ambulance helicopter but couldn’t be revived.

The woman has been treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and is now in Sutherland Hospital under observation.

An inquiry is now underway by officers from Sutherland Police Area Command and Marine Area Command.

It’s unknown if either of those on board were wearing lifejackets.
