Salim Mehajer’s new harbourside home is raided by cops searching for GUNS – after he and his mates posed with firearms on Sydney Harbour

  • Police raided new unit owned by Salim Mehajer in search of guns or ammunition
  • The pre-dawn search was conducted at Sydney harbourside unit on Wednesday
  • Mehajer, 33, is the subject of a firearms prohibition order and cannot have guns
  • He caused controversy after holding a replica shotgun on a yacht last December
  • Mehajer is on both bail and parole,  and is currently facing more than 50 charges

The home of embattled property developer Salim Mehajer has been raided by police, months after he was pictured with a fake shotgun on a boat.

Mehajer’s recently purchased harbourside unit on Sydney’s north shore was stormed before dawn on Wednesday, with officers hunting for firearms he may have had inside.

The businessman – who was released from Cooma Prison after 11 months last May – is the subject of a firearms prohibition order (FPO) and cannot possess any weapons, weapon parts or ammunition.

NSW Police confirmed they attended Mehajer’s home, but said they did not find him to be in breach of his FPO.

‘About 6.30am (Wednesday, March 4 2020) officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command attended a unit… to execute a firearms prohibition order search,’ a police spokesperson said.

‘During the search no weapons were found.’

Mehajer turned heads last December when he and friends were pictured with guns on Sydney Harbour onboard a boat for his girlfriend Missy Tysoe’s birthday.

The photograph showed Mehajer and his two friends pointing what appeared to be shotguns over the side of the boat and towards the camera.

However the guns turned out to be realistic-looking fakes used for laser shooting.

At the time NSW Police said they were ‘aware of the photo and conducting inquiries’, but no action was ever taken against Mehajer.

The 33-year-old is currently on both bail and parole, and a breach of his FPO would have meant he could be immediately taken into police custody.

Police can conduct random searches at the properties of those subject to FPOs.

Mehajer is understood to have purchased his new harbourside property in late-2019, but still resides partly at his mansion at Lidcombe, in Sydney’s west.

He is currently on bail for close to 50 charges as well as parole for the electoral fraud conviction which landed him behind bars.

In addition to his criminal matters, Mehajer also has a series of civil matters currently before the courts relating to his business dealings.
