Salim Mehajer’s look-alike lawyer refuses crash questions

Salim Mehajer’s lawyer shut down a press conference immediately after being asked whether it was a coincidence he was in a car crash on a day he was due in court.

The controversial businessman and ex-deputy mayor of Auburn council was trapped inside his Mercedes for 20 minutes after the accident in Sydney’s west on Monday.

Mr Mehajer, who was due to appear in the Downing Centre Local Court, was rushed to Westmead Hospital with neck injuries after the crash on Delhi Street, in Lidcombe.

And outside the hospital on Monday afternoon one of the 31-year-old’s large team of look-alike lawyers answered questions about his condition, except about the chance of him being in an accident the same week he is due to appear in court four times.

Mr Mehajer, who rose to fame after his lavish 2015 wedding, was due to appear in the Sydney court over charges of assaulting a Channel Seven journalist last year.

But just after leaving his home on the way to court his white 4WD was involved in the accident that left him trapped inside his vehicle for up to 20 minutes.

Pictures taken at the scene show him being pulled from the vehicle and placed into a neck brace, before being treated for neck pain and taken to hospital.

Explaining his client’s absence to the court, his lawyer said Mr Mehajer had been in a motor accident and his injuries were ‘relatively serious’.

The accident happened just streets from Mr Mehajer’s house which was shut down in 2015 so helicopters and a bevvy of sports cars could enter for his lavish wedding.

Monday morning’s accident follows a serious crash in 2012, in which Mr Mehajer lost control of his $300,000 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti and ran over two women.
