Sam Ball says ‘it’s all scripted’ as Married At First Sight Grand Reunion airs fat shaming comments

Sam Ball has defended himself after his fat shaming comments about ‘ex-wife’ Elizabeth Sobinoff were revisited on the Married At First Sight Grand Reunion, which aired in Australia on Monday night.

In an Instagram post, the 28-year-old wrote that he ‘couldn’t believe’ he was still dealing with the fallout of the show years after he appeared on the 2019 season, where he was paired with Lizzie, 29.

The army recruit said:  ‘Even though I didn’t go I assume I’ll be on it tonight because it makes them massive money from whoever watches so I hope its entertaining.

‘I can’t believe this is all even still a thing three weeks of my life and it’s still on TV two years later’.

Sam also re-shared a video he had posted a week earlier, in which he insisted the show is ‘all scripted’ and producers had told him what to say, and how to act.

‘Producers ask you and hit you up about your new partner,’ he said. ‘They go off track, manipulate you and tell you what to say and ask questions until you answer it they want you to answer it.

‘I thought Lizzie was a lovely girl, I was trying to give her positive compliments until they told me to say what was said, so that’s what happened,’ he added of the ‘fat-shaming’ incident.

‘Lizzie got out of the f**king limo and says, “Oh, my God, look how chunky tubby is.” She fat-shamed me and I said she’s bigger than the girl I usually dated, meaning height and stuff like that.’

Sam went on to suggest that producers ‘fat-shamed’ Elizabeth in front of him.

‘I didn’t want to fat-shame her at all, that’s not what my intentions were. They were the ones who said, “Sam, she’s a big girl mate, what are you doing?!” That’s messed up, they shouldn’t do it, it’s all bulls**t,’ he said.

On Monday night’s episode, Lizzie said she still lived with hurt from those comments, and would never forgive Sam for making them.

‘His comments, the weight comments, have still trickled over. I never escaped that, and I don’t think I ever will be able to escape that,’ she said.

‘Every day, every day walking down the street – not a day goes by my weight is not questioned thanks to this person.’

She added: ‘I will never forgive that person. For not apologising, and acting like, oh, it’s not a big deal. It is. Every day, I can never escape that – being the former fat girl.’
