Footy Show co-hosts Eddie McGuire and Rebecca Maddern laughed along politely, agreeing with Newman as he delivered his passionate speech.
His stunt was in response to a photo the Australian Prime Minister posted to his Facebook last Saturday night during the Sydney Swans v Essendon Bombers game.
Mr Turnbull faced backlash online after sharing the photo, which showed him kissing his granddaughter Alice while holding a beer during the AFL finals clash.
While Mr Turnbull innocently labelled the occasion ‘multitasking’, many social media users were quick to point out potential issues with the post.
He went on to pretend to pour a beer stein down the throat of the baby, asking: ‘Why would anyone worry about Malcolm Turnbull having a beer with his granddaughter sitting on his lap?
Newman, who is known for stirring the pot on the AFL Footy Show, said ‘this country is rooted’
Some accused him of being an irresponsible child-minder, while others took the opportunity to blast him for ‘wasting’ money on the upcoming postal plebiscite.
‘Do you HAVE to drink alcohol whilst holding that baby? What is wrong with soft drink?,’ one concerned follower wrote.
Another was particularly irritated, writing: ‘Does anyone see anything irresponsible with an adult hold(ing) a baby and juggling a beer? And when was drinking while holding a child OK?’
Continuing: ‘I find it disgusting to see people breathing grog all over baby’s but sadly I’m not surprised by Malcolm doing it.
Straight down the hatch! In true Sam Newman style, the footy star pretended to pour the beer down the baby’s throat
