Same-sex marriage equality ad The Bachelor social media

Social media has lost its mind over the ‘utterly perfect’ marriage equality ad which aired during The Bachelor finale.

The first ad for the ‘Yes’ campaign was aired smack bang in the middle of The Bachelor finale on Thursday night, and it garnered an overwhelming outpouring of support from its viewers.

The ad featured real-life gay couples on their wedding day as family and friends celebrated their love, with Don’t Dream It’s Over by Crowded House played in the background.

‘That marriage equality ad in the middle of The Bachelor finale was utterly perfect,’ Jackson Ryan said.

‘It was the sweetest damn thing ever, I almost cried,’ Nadine Ishere said.

With millions of people expected to tune in to watch the finale on Thursday night, the ‘Yes’ campaign’s decision to air the ad for the first time was a strategic one.

And the decision appeared to pay off, with hundreds sharing their overwhelming support for the ad and the message it sent.

‘Just got teary watching the marriage equality ad. So lovely,’ Madeline Healey said.

The Bachelorette’s very own Georgia Love joined the conversation, Tweeting: ‘Because every bachelor and bachelorette deserves their own finale’.

Love, who appeared on the show in 2016, pleaded with people to ‘please, please vote yes’.

Her support for the cause did not go unnoticed, with one person saying: ‘I love this ad. Yep I cried watching it. Love is love. Thank you for supporting marriage equality Georgia. You’re the best’.

One viewer said the ad moved her so much she hoped The Bachelor contestants ‘Laura and Elise take off with each other’.

The ‘Yes’ campaign ad was not the only one to air during The Bachelor finale.

The ‘No’ campaign’s ad also played, appearing to spark outrage among viewers.

Organised by the Coalition for Marriage, the ad features mothers who discuss potential adverse effects on their children if the legislation was passed.

A mother of four explains her concern at her son’s school telling him ‘he could wear a dress next year if he felt like it’.

Viewers slammed the ad and Channel Ten’s decision to play it during the finale.

‘Channel Ten has the gall to air No campaign ads during The Bachelor,’ Brendon Foye said.

‘If I have to see this disgusting anti-marriage equality ad again I’m literally going to throw up,’ one woman said.
