‘My life has become progressively more surreal since my sister’s cancer diagnosis,’ he admitted to the magazine of Connie’s breast cancer fight and eventual death in September this year.

Fighting the loss, the actor said that cancer can do two things to you, either crush you or teach you to live in the present moment and not take life for granted.

‘It can defeat you or it can give you a real understanding that now is awesome and I’m really glad I fell on the right side of it because it didn’t crush my spirit, instead, it increased my zest for life,’  he said.

Samuel continued: ‘I’m a big believer that death can be a positive experience.’

The former Secret Life Of Us actor added that he was accepting the change in his life for Connie’s sake, particularly when it comes to the first Christmas without her.

‘I’m embracing the new structure rather than grieving for the old. Connie would have wanted progression for this family. We’re all lucky enough to still be together this Christmas, with or without her,’ Samuel explained.

He divulged he would be hosting the Christmas celebrations at his home.

The AACTA Award winner stepped away from acting so he could focus full time on raising $10 million for his Love Your Sister cancer charity, a project he and sister Connie started when she got sick.

The charity has raised $7 million so far and for his role in the organisation, the actor gave himself the new title: ‘Head of Cancer Vanquishment’.

Samuel admitted that his career and accolades (Including the Gold Logie nomination and win) stopped making sense once he saw his sister battling the disease.

The Daylesford-born entertainer said while Australia’s entertainment community might be happy to have him back, he still isn’t sure about his next move.
