‘Cat pervert!’: Neighbors are at war over pet cat Mercury as owner unleashes bizarre rant accusing man next door of ‘harboring’ their feline because it spends so much time in their yard
- Cat owners angrily confronted their neighbours for ‘harbouring’ their pet
A furious man brands his neighbors ‘cat perverts’ and acuses them of ‘harboring’ his pet in their yard in bizarre exchange between them caught on video.
The incredible footage, filmed last month in San Diego, shows a dramatic argument between two couples over a cat named Mercury.
Mercury’s furious owners claim the neighbors have effectively kidnapped their cat by feeding it to keep it coming back and staying in their home.
The argument escaltes so that at one point Mercury’s male owner brands his neighbors ‘cat perverts’ in surreal scenes.
He also threatens to call the police – though it’s believed cops quickly declined to intervene.
Mercury’s furious owners claimed the neighbours had effectively kidnapped their cat by feeding it and having it stay in their yard
The entire confrontation was captured on video by the neighbor, who seemed stunned by the accusations levelled at him by Mercury’s owners.
The clip starts with the male neighbor walking up to the cat owners as they scream accusations at him.
He responds: ‘I just want to be clear. You’re upset because I made friends with your cat?’
The furious man answers: ‘You’re unreasonable people and you’re holding our cat. You should go in your yard and say ‘Mercury, go home, don’t come in our yard anymore’.’
He makes a shooing motion with his hands to show what the neighbors should do to Mercury.
Unfortunately, this does little to calm the situation, with the neighbors bursting into laughter and pointing out that the cat ‘doesn’t speak English’.
This infuriates the cat owner further and he marches away after saying that he is calling the police.
A short time later, the man returns, sarcastically asking his neighbors if they feed his cat.
When they say they don’t, he gets even angrier, culminating in him flinging a wild accusation at the neighbors of being ‘cat perverts’ – to the exasperation of his own partner.

The stunned neighbor bursts into laughter, telling Mercury’s owner that ‘he’s lost it’.
His partner tells the cat owners to stop making a scene ‘over a cat’.
The clip cuts away as Mercury’s male owner walks off, only to return and tell his neighbors that he has called the police and that they are ‘harboring’ the cat.
There is no such ‘harboring an animal’ law in California or the rest of the country.
The footage ends with the man branding his neighbors ‘cat perverts’ once again.
Speaking afterwards, the neighbor said: ‘My neighbors have a very friendly outdoor cat that likes to hang out in my yard.
‘The cat is free to come and go as it pleases. For some reason, they don’t like that, and decided it’s my job to tell the cat where and where not to go.
‘Before I started recording, they said I was ‘manipulating’ the cat by ‘befriending’ it. They did end up calling the police after I stopped recording, but the police almost immediately hung up on them.
‘The cat was right back in my yard the next morning.’
The footage was widely shared on social media, with may stunned by the outburst from the cat owner.
One said: ‘The guy invented a whole new crime of “harbouring an animal”.’
While another added: ‘The audacity to have an outdoor roaming cat and get upset it interacts with your neighbors… keep it inside if this is a problem for you, my man.’
A third joked: ‘I can see why the cat would rather hang at the neighbors house.’
While a fourth simply said: ‘Cats don’t care about fences.’
