Sara Davies teases new ‘crafting queen’ body art as she visits tattoo parlour

Sara Davies teased fans as she posed for an Instagram picture while getting some new body art on Friday.

The Dragon’s Den star, 37, gave her followers a glimpse of the purple inking which read ‘crafting queen’ while it had an elaborate pattern around it.

However, the design turned out not to be a tattoo as the founder and owner of Crafter’s Companion was playing an April Fool’s joke on her fans.

Sharing a picture of herself alongside the tattoo artist, she wrote: ‘Look what I’ve treated myself to!

‘I’ve been fancying getting a tattoo for a while now but didn’t know what to get or who to go to for it, then I found out @gentlemanjimstattooclub is just down the road from our office and he’s such an amazing artist so he designed up this Crafting Queen piece personal to me and I absolutely love it! #tattoo #tattooideas #northeasttattoo #craftingqueen’

However, just a few hours later she took to social media to post a clip of herself walking in to the parlour, only to reveal the pattern was drawn on with a pen.

In the clip she was seen walking in the door before taking a seat inside while the tattoo artist designed the tatt.

He then appeared to take the needle to her arm but, as he went to wipe any excess ink off, he washed the whole tattoo off with soapy water.

Sara wrote: ‘Can’t believe so many of you fell for my ‘tattoo’ … APRIL FOOLS!

‘I had SUCH a laugh planning this and I just want to say a huge thank you to the team including @cupofcaitlinn for filming and pics & @darrengbrown for designing my crafty tattoo and last but least Jamie at @gentlemanjimstattooclub for lending us his (real) tattoo studio and getting in on the prank!’

Sara’s trickery comes after she paid tribute to her former Strictly Come Dancing partner Aljaž Škorjanec after the professional announced he would not be returning to the show this year.

Aljaž, who danced with Sara on the BBC ballroom contest last year, revealed on Monday that he would be leaving Strictly, with sources adding he was ‘on the fence’ about leaving before deciding to move onto other projects.

Sara wrote on Instagram: ‘So the news has come out today about @aljazskorjanec leaving @bbcstrictly.

‘The moment I agreed to do Strictly I knew I wanted to be partnered with Aljaz… I couldn’t put my finger on exactly why, I just knew there was something really special about him. I knew that if I was going to do the show I hoped (and told everyone I could that would listen that I hoped) that Aljaz would be my partner.

Little did I know at that point I would be dancing his last series with him.

He’s given an incredible 9 years to the show and the joy he has brought to so many people in that time is just amazing – not only his partners and colleagues, but to the millions of fans out there who love the show and who love him.

‘The biggest question I get asked about him all the time is ‘is he really as lovely as he comes across’ and my response is always ‘I’ve had the privilege of not only being taught by him, and dancing with him, but also of him becoming a part of my family and one of my best friends, and I can tell you he’s even more amazing in real life than you could imagine.’

‘He really embodies everything the show is about and I know he’s going to be such a huge miss. I saw first hand the positive impact he has on everyone he comes into contact with – from the other professionals and crew working on the show, to all of the fans he takes time to meet and chat with.

I know what a hard decision this has been for him, to give up something he loves so dearly and that is such a huge part of who he is.

‘But I also know that this isn’t the end of his book – it’s just the start of a new chapter and there’s as many exciting chapters to come as the ones we’ve already read! ❤️ Keep being awesome partner – I know you will! Xxx.’

Aljaž announced that was leaving Strictly Come Dancing following nine years on the show on Monday.

He follows in the footsteps of his wife Janette Manrara, who announced her own departure from the pro line-up last year as she moved into the presenter role for spin-off show It Takes Two.

In a statement, Aljaž said: ‘On a beautiful sunny day in May 2013 one phone call changed my life forever!

‘It went like this… we would like to offer you a position on @bbcstrictly as a professional dancer. A dream became a reality and it was the biggest opportunity for a 23 year old boy from Slovenia.

‘It didn’t matter how many beautiful ballrooms I performed in during my competitive career, stepping onto the sacred Strictly floor was the most nervous I had ever been.

‘A little while ago I made the tough decision that Strictly 2021 would be my last. The show has given me an opportunity and freedom to create and express myself in front of millions of people every weekend for the last 9 years.

‘The love and support I got from the team of producers was second to none. Jason Gilkison, Sarah James, Kim Winston, Jack Gledhill are just a few of the unsung heroes behind the success of the show – I am forever grateful to them!

‘Being a part of a group of professionals that inspire and push you to be better every step of the way is humbling and I will carry that inspiration with me forever. Every year the lineup of dancers would change but one thing stayed the same, WE WERE THE BEST! And this is one thing that I know will never change on Strictly!’

‘Strictly also has the BEST backstage team – the hair and make-up team, costume department, lighting, sound, props and special effects, camera operators… THANK YOU!’

Alijaz, who won the Glitterball trophy in his first year on the BBC competition, went on to pay tribute to the nine celebrity partners he has danced with on the show, writing: ‘My beautiful partners – Abbey Clancy, Alison Hammond, Helen George, Daisy Lowe, Kate Silverton, Gemma Atkinson, Emma Weymouth, Clara Amfo and Sara Davies.

‘It’s hard to put into words how many beautiful memories we have had. I LOVE YOU ALL!’
