Sarah Ferguson’s dog walker sacked for royal butler affair

Fergie’s dog walker axed over an affair with Prince Andrew’s butler broke her silence today to accuse her royal bosses of disloyalty.

Amanda Severn, 52, lost her job as dog walker to Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson over her relationship with Terrence Holdforth.

But speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Ms Severn said she was ‘very upset’ at her sacking, adding: ‘I am sitting here without a job and no money and they are still in their nice cottages.

‘They have taken their side and she (Fergie) has not shown any loyalty to me. I am not happy.’

Ms Severn said she ended the affair with 58 year old Holdforth after an ‘abusive’ phone call from his wife, royal housekeeper Mandy, who discovered texts between the pair.

‘He (Holdforth) led me to believe he was separated from his wife and others did as well. I thought he was separated and that is why we were together. We would not have been if he was still married.

‘I received an abusive phone call from his wife, and ended it immediately. I walked away. ‘

Amanda said she wants to move on with her life and continuing work as a dog walker – but not for the royal couple.

‘I have lost my job but I am not going to fight the royal family. I am the one sitting here without a job. It is unfair.

‘I would have thought they would have shown some more loyalty.’

Earlier, speaking behind the door of her home in Chertsey, Surrey, wrapped in a towel having just got out of the bath, Amanda, said: ‘I know what has been said, but they have been separated for 10 years.

‘They were separated and that’s all I’m saying at the moment’.

Sources previously said Amanda was fired after Mandy went to Fergie over the affair.

But Amanda — who had walked the Duke of York’s five Norfolk Terriers for more than five years — refused to give up the job she loved, according to The Sun.

The Holdforths — who have both been awarded the Royal Victorian Medal ‘for distinguished service to the monarch’ — have worked for Andrew for more than 20 years.

The pair have a grace and favour home on the Royal Lodge estate.

Amanda told friends she assumed she was free to meet Terence for steamy trysts at her static caravan home in Chertsey, Surrey, near the estate, because she thought the marriage was over, it was claimed last night.

A royal insider told The Sun: ‘Amanda had been seeing Terry for about a year but they became intimate around six months ago.

‘They’d meet at the local pub after work and he’d go to her place.

‘But when Mandy discovered texts on his phone from Amanda, all hell broke loose.’

Friends of Amanda said she was shocked to receive a furious phone call from the royal housekeeper who warned her to steer clear of her husband.

But sources say Terence continued in his job and Amanda carried on taking the royal dogs for daily three-hour walks.

The pal said: ‘When Mandy first found out, Amanda wasn’t allowed to come into the grounds of the estate to collect the dogs. Terry would take them to her.’

Amanda showed pals a supportive text — apparently sent by Fergie after the fling was exposed — which read: ‘We still want you to love and walk our dogs.’

But once Mandy delivered her ultimatum, Amanda was sacked with just two weeks’ severance pay.

A source said: ‘Sarah Ferguson still rules the roost at the Duke’s home — even though they’re divorced — and still insists on being called ‘Ma’am’ or ‘Your Royal Highness’.

‘And once Mandy had said, ‘It’s me or the dog walker’ there was no way Fergie was going to choose the dog walker over her loyal housekeeper who’s been at her side for decades.’

A source close to Amanda said: ‘She really misses the work and the staff at Royal Lodge — they were like a big close-knit family of cooks, chauffeurs, butlers and footmen.

‘Amanda liked Andrew but everyone who worked there found Fergie more demanding.

‘She misses the dogs — even though a couple of them were apparently a bit of a handful.

‘She was left in tears when she found out another royal dog walker had been appointed to replace her.

And she decided to ditch Holdforth altogether after she was sacked.’

Both Amanda and a Buckingham Palace spokesperson declined to comment on a private matter.

Andrew, 57, and Fergie, 58, divorced in 1996.

She has rebuilt her public image and slipped back into the House of Windsor, sparking rumours she and the Duke may remarry.

The pair remain close with daughters Beatrice, 29, and Eugenie, 27, who regularly dine with them at Royal Lodge.
