It comes after Sarah said that her role as the breadwinner in her family is a ‘taboo subject’ in a candid discussion around stigmas facing women.

She was speaking on the new series of her Hot And Bothered podcast with former co-stars Ali Bastian and Carley Stenson, which was released on Wednesday.

In November 2021 Sarah was dropped from Hollyoaks after she joined the adult subscription service OnlyFans. because producers felt it was not ‘in line with their target audience’.

She has now reportedly earned more than £700,000 from the X-rated subscription site, over a year after being axed from her £120,000 acting job.

Speaking on the podcast, the three best friends candidly discussed topics such as ‘mum-shaming’ and returning to work after having a baby – as well as reminiscing about their time on Hollyoaks.

Sarah said: ‘I’m the breadwinner in the family. For me, I feel like more pressure because I’ve always been the breadwinner in every relationship.

‘I’ve always worked and I am at the moment. For me there was a lot of “I have to go back to work” because I’m the one that’s bringing in the wage so I will cover all the bills. This is how it’s got to be.

‘Again, it’s a bit of a taboo isn’t it. Being the breadwinner as a woman I think is a bit of a taboo subject.’

Sarah has been married to Jonathan Smith since 2018, and the couple share a son, Stanley.

She felt another taboo facing her is that of gender roles while parenting – adding that if she misses a few days of dropping her son off at school people will ask where she is. But if Jonathan isn’t seen for a few days no questions will be asked.

Despite being the breadwinner in her own family, Sarah reflected that the gender pay gap could prevent many going back to work as soon as they would like.

She said: ‘It does feel like as women we get more scrutiny for going back to work, especially if you go back to work sooner rather than later once you’ve had a child.

‘Whereas men don’t get any of that judgement. There is no like “your baby is only six months old and you’re coming back to work.” Men are straight back in.

‘It does feel very much like it’s all on you I think. And I think that as well with the men being able to go back to work.

‘It does feel very much like it’s your baby, rather than like you say, a shared thing and shared experience. Work should be part of that. It should be a choice.

‘Especially with the gender pay gap – it feels like women are being priced out a little bit. The men will go back to work because they’re earning more money than us, especially with the cost of childcare.’

But they went on to discuss how the situation was made worse by the limited amount of paternity leave offered to men.

The star, who played Mandy Richardson on Hollyoaks from 1996 to 2021, previously said she was ‘much happier’ after she was axed from the show for her posts on the raunchy website.

She said that posted her own pictures on OnlyFans meant she had been able to take control of her own image.

When one fan asked: ‘How do you feel since not working for Hollyoaks anymore?’, Sarah replied: ‘Free’.

Another follower questioned: ‘If Hollyoaks had of let you stay regardless of OnlyFans, would you have left anyways?’
