Saturday Night Live: Regé-Jean Page films a steamy Bridgerton sex scene for his hosting debut

Regé-Jean Page made his Saturday Night Live debut this weekend following the success of Netflix hit drama Bridgerton.

And the 31-year-old British–Zimbabwean actor played up his status as a sex symbol during a sketch which reimagined what goes on behind-the-scenes of the raunchy series.

Regé-Jean – who plays the hunky Duke of Hastings on Bridgerton – was seen climbing on top of Chloe Fineman, who was pretending to be his co-star Phoebe Dynevor.

In the series, one particular scene portrays the Duke taking Daphne’s [played by Dynevor] viginity.

But the SNL sketch incorporated a pair of creepy intimacy coordinators, played by Mikey Day and Pete Davidson, to coach them through the scene.

The two SNL players were dressed in rugged work clothes and sported identical goatees.

Kate McKinnon, playing the episode’s director, explained that the real intimacy coordinator had tested positive for Covid-19, so they had to rely on substitutes.

Regé-Jean, who was dressed in period costume, was initially a good sport in the skit, before getting increasingly irritated by the intimacy coaches – who then returned to set as make-up artists.

Regé-Jean also poked fun at his sexy Netflix series in his monologue.

‘Most of you probably recognize me from Bridgerton on Netflix, the show that made everyone turn to their moms and say, “Oh, you know what? Never mind, I don’t think we should watch this together”‘, he joked.

Aidy Bryant, Ego Nwodim and Chloe all made appearances during the monologue to be Regé-Jean’s ‘personal liaison’.

‘Anything you need, alcohol, a little massage — I don’t know why I said that so British,’ Aidy said nervously.

Regé-Jean tried to present himself as an ordinary guy, taking breaks to address the audience directly in closeup while George Michael’s Careless Whisper played, in another nod to his newfound heartthrob status.

She got another surprise after her next guest, Judas And The Black Messiah’s Daniel Kaluuya (Chris Redd), turned out to be English.

‘Were you British when you made Get Out?’ she asked incredulously.

Ice Cube (Kenan Thompson) was her final guest, but he was so jealous of her reactions that he put on a terrible cockney accent, but she saw right through it.

The show took a more surreal turn with a skit set at the Mr. Chicken Legs Pageant, which crowns ‘the grown man with the skinniest legs in America.’

Cicely Strong sang a deranged theme song before turning it over to Regé-Jean as the host, while Fineman played his comic relief who had nothing to say about the contestants.

Mikey Day showed off his petite legs in a skirt, while new cast member Andrew Dismukes proved that his leg profile doesn’t change at all when he flexes his puny calves.

But Pete Davidson’s character won the top prize as a guy who dresses up as Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

His prize was ‘the smallest little kiss,’ which ended up being an ultra-brief peck on the cheek from Aidy Bryant.

In another pre-taped segment, Regé-Jean was playing a job applicant interviewing at a bizarre company that made ads on spec, or without waiting for a client to request them.

Beck Bennett played the boss, who bragged about the bizarre ads on his walls that no company would ever buy, including posters for Doritos and Mike’s Hard Lemonade that featured penises.

Regé-Jean’s character showed off some bizarre ad ideas, including one for the Chevy Bolt in which it hits Olympic runner Usain Bolt and cuts him in half.

Bennett’s character ultimately decides to hire him after he comes up with an ad for Netflix: ‘We have porn now.’

Bad Bunny made his first musical appearance next with a duet on La Noche De Anoche (Last Night) featuring the Spanish singer Rosalia.

During Weekend Update, Davidson made a guest appearance as a ‘relationship consultant.’

He claimed he had decided to move out of the house he shares with his mother after spending the night of Valentine’s Day eating chocolates and watching a movie with her.

He also joked that he watched Framing Britney Spears and realized his mother has ‘way more of a case’ to take over his finances than Britney’s father.

Heidi Garnder played the next guest, a food insecurity activist who helps get meals to those in need.

But she didn’t realize that she was dressed exactly like Freddie Kreuger, including his tattered striped sweater and worn-out fedora. She even had a razor glove just like the movie monster’s that she used while preparing food.

The show got back to business with a fake segment on the History Channel about sea shanties, which were recently all the rage on TikTok.

Every single man in the cast appeared to be assembled as they sang from the deck of a ship in the 19th century, but it became clear none of them knew how to sail and they were almost certainly going to die.

‘No better death than to get eaten alive by your closest mates 45 minutes from the shore,’ Regé-Jean, who played the captain, sang.

The show shifted to a contemporary home, where Beck Bennet and Aidy Bryant played parents throwing a dinner party for a family featuring Ego Nwodim and Kenan Thompson as parents.

After Bennett and Bryant’s son (Dismukes) recited a short prayer before eating, Thompson and Nwodim’s characters decided they needed a more substantial prayer before eating, so their son (Page) launched into a long, impassioned prayer as if he was trying to get a whole church congregation on its feet.
