Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal remain among the clubs keen on signing Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez this summer.

The Uruguayan looks set to leave Anfield after struggling to nail down a place in Arne Slot’s starting XI, with Luis Diaz often depolyed out of position in the centre of attack during the Reds’ Premier League title-winning campaign.

Al-Hilal are in the market for a striker in the window after failing in their attempts to land Napoli forward Victor Osimhen.

The Nigeria star, who scored 37 goals in 41 games while on loan at Galatasary last term, rejected a lucrative offer to join the side last week.

The club, who finished second in the Saudi top flight, remain interested in the Reds forward, who, despite several high-profile misses, has shown flashes of the quality that motivated the champions to part with a club-record £85million fee to acquire his services from Benfica in 2022.

Nunez scored just seven goals and provided five assists in 47 matches in all competitions for Slot’s side. He has three remaining on his contract at Anfield.

Last month, reports in Italy claimed that Serie A champions Napoli were interested in signing the 25-year-old.

Reports in Corriere dello Sport stated that Nunez is one of several high-profile names under consideration as Napoli look to strengthen their attack. Sporting director Giovanni Manna is leading the club’s transfer planning and seemingly sees Nunez as a player who could thrive in Serie A and help elevate the club’s European ambitions.

Nunez has previously been linked with a move to fellow Saudi outfit Al-Nassr, whose approach to sign the striker was rebuffed by Liverpool in January.

Al-Hilal’s recent interest in the player could be motivated by their participation in the Club World Cup, which begins with a daunting clash against LaLiga giants Real Madrid on June 18.

Al-Hilal have spent big on the appointment of Simeone Inzaghi as head coach ahead of the tournament.

However, the side will need to complete the signing of the forward by 7pm on Tuesday for him to be available for the group stages.

Nunez’s Liverpool team-mate Luis Diaz is also attracting interest from the Gulf State, with Al-Nassr lurking in the background and poised to make an approach in the coming weeks.
