Savannah Guthrie celebrates 10th NBC anniversary

Today marks 10 years that Savannah Guthrie has been toiling away at NBC.

And in honor of the big day the Today show’s anchors offered up a ‘very special throwback Thursday’ for their colleague, showing Savannah on her very first assignment for the network’s NBC Nightly.

Carson Daly did the announcement before flashing the image up onscreen showing the younger Savannah reporting her first piece sitting in front of an image of what appears to be someone shooting at a target.

The photo brought a number of squeals of disbelief from Savannah’s fellow Today show anchors, while Savannah herself claimed to remember the day well.

‘Oh my gosh! That’s crazy!’ she said, joking: ‘I guess hair and makeup was off that day.’

Matt Lauer then joked that she will be getting a blender from the company for her decade’s worth of service.

‘Oh a blender! I thought you meant the hairstyle was called the blender, like you look like you stuck your hair in a blender,’ she laughed.

It’s already been an exciting month for Savannah as she got to watch her favorite athlete, Roger Federer compete in the US Open last week.

The 45-year-old Today show host shared a short clip of herself ogling at the Switzerland native during his five-set face-off against Russian athlete Mikhail Youznhy, 35, on Thursday night.

During the match, she posted several videos of her favorite tennis player, using hashtags such as #superfan and #supergeek and making it clear she was firmly in the Roger camp.

‘You could cut the tension with a Swiss knife,’ Savannah, who also shared a photo of herself close to the tennis court, wrote in the snap’s caption.

She apparently couldn’t get enough of the Bottmingen, Switzerland native’s prowess, sharing a clip of him serving with her 406,000 followers.

Savannah then made no secret of her happiness at the game, writing in another caption: ‘Dreams do come true. Thank you @rogerfederer.’

When the game’s fifth set began, the anchor didn’t lost faith in the revered tennis player, and while she admitted the atmosphere had gotten extremely tense, she wrote: ‘Come on Rog’ in another post, referring to the athlete by his nickname.

Eventually, Savannah, making no secret of the intensity of her admiration for Roger, and shared the video of herself looking at him from a distance as he toweled himself off, admitting in the caption: ‘Busted. Staring.’

Roger, who won his match against Youznhy, has long been a source of admiration for Savannah.

In July, the host showed that she has transmitted her passion to her three-year-old daughter Vale, who cheered on the five-time US Open winner with her mother while watching Wimbledon on television.

Savannah shared a video on Instagram (and then on-air during an interview with the eight-time Wimbledon champion) showing the adorable toddler, then two years old, enthusiastically cheering on Roger during his semi-final against Tomáš Berdych.

The cute clip shows Savannah and her daughter sitting on their couch watching the match, with Vale happily cheering, ‘Roger! Roger! Roger!’ at the camera, before her smiling mom joins in.

Later on, Savannah couldn’t wait for the opportunity to share the sweet video with Roger, broadcasting it live on air while speaking to the Wimbledon victor the following Monday.

Speaking to the tennis pro via video, Savannah eagerly confessed to Roger – who powered his way to a nineteenth grand slam title on Sunday – that she is one of his biggest fans.

‘I don’t know if you’ve been informed Roger, but I may be your number one super fan, not just because you’re an excellent tennis player, but because you seem to be such a sincere and excellent sport, and so many people have said that,’ she said, prompting the Wimbledon champion to reply: ‘Thank you so much for your support, I have been told and you’re too kind.’

Clearly eager to cement her status as Roger’s most dedicated fan, Savannah continued: ‘Well I don’t know if you know this, but my two-year-old daughter, a little girl named Vale, loves you very much, and we were watching your semi final and I wanted to show you a little piece of that tape I took.’

Gamely laughing at the sweet video, Roger joked: ‘Oh my god, making sure she’s a Roger Federer fan too!’

‘She is!’ Savannah replied, adding: ‘It is in her DNA, it is absolutely in her DNA.’

Bringing the interview to a close, Savannah added: ‘I’m glad to see you holding the trophy, I wanted you to know I’ve been holding my tennis racket during this entire interview,’ before holding it up to show the tennis gear to Roger.
