Speaking to the tennis pro via video, Savannah eagerly confessed to Roger – who powered his way to a nineteenth grand slam title on Sunday – that she is one of his biggest fans.
‘I don’t know if you’ve been informed Roger, but I may be your number one super fan, not just because you’re an excellent tennis player, but because you seem to be such a sincere and excellent sport, and so many people have said that,’ she said, prompting the Wimbledon champion to reply: ‘Thank you so much for your support, I have been told and you’re too kind.’
Clearly eager to cement her status as Roger’s most dedicated fan, Savannah continued: ‘Well I don’t know if you know this, but my two-year-old daughter, a little girl named Vale, loves you very much, and we were watching your semi final and I wanted to show you a little piece of that tape I took.’

Dream moment: Savannah joked after the interview that she can ‘die now’ after getting a chance to tell Roger how much she admires him and chat with him during the interview
After the interview was over, Savannnah’s co-host Hoda Kotb mentioned that Roger had said the Today show anchor’s name during the interview, with Savannah joking: ‘I can die now, I wore red for Switzerland, I put Swiss cheese on my breakfast sandwich, it’s a Roger day!’
Explaining her enthusiasm about speaking with the Wimbledon champ, Savannah added: ‘He’s such a great player, and he’s a great sport, and that’s truly why I admire him so much.
‘And I think everyone on the tour loves him too so I’m in good company.’
Hoda admitted she was surprised to see Savannah in such a fluster over an interview, joking: ‘I’ve never seen you quite like this, in all the years… this is special.’
Savannah replied: ‘It’s funny because [people] were saying I was a real dork around Duran Duran, and I said, “That’s fine, I love Duran Duran,” but that was 30 years ago I had the crush, this is a live crush right now, this is happening in current time.’
