Savannah Guthrie watches Federer in the Australian Open

Savannah Guthrie is gearing up to play her tennis hero Roger Federer in a celebrity doubles match in March — and she couldn’t resist scoping out the competition with her three-year-old daughter Vale over the weekend.

The 46-year-old Today show anchor took to Instagram on Sunday to share an adorable snapshot of herself sitting on the floor with her daughter while they watch Roger in action.

‘Watching #Rog win Australian Open live at 6am in matching heart PJs [check] and [check],’ she captioned the image, which shows them wearing cream pajama tops featuring little red hearts.

The tennis champion’s win marks his sixth Australian Open and 20th Grand Slam title, meaning Savannah has some pretty stiff competition.

In a month, Savannah will be teaming up with tennis player Jack Sock to take on Roger and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates during the charity doubles match match, which will raise money for children’s education in Africa.

The event will take place on March 5 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California, and tickets are being sold for $30 to $500.

It’s hardly a secret that Savannah is a Roger Federer superfan, and while she has interviewed him before it, playing him on the tennis court is undoubtedly a dream come true for the Today star.

Savannah has been practicing for the showdown, and over the weekend she posted a video of herself slamming ball after ball over the net.

The clip, which appeared to be in slow motion, was shot by Savannah’s husband Mike Feldman, and she happily gave him credit for the video.

‘The weird thing is we didn’t even shoot this in slo mo,’ she captioned the footage. ‘Video by @feldmike, who has always wanted to direct.’

Last week, it was revealed that Savannah will be taking Roger on during the charity match, and the two engaged in a little smack talk on Twitter.

While sharing a video of herself on the tennis courty, Savannah tweeted: ‘Okay, @rogerfederer, it’s ON. Can you handle THIS?? Did I mention my 3 summers at tennis camp? #matchforAfrica.’

Roger managed a sly dig when he responded: ‘I noticed the ball went out but yes, very intimidating @SavannahGuthrie – @BillGates and I will be ready with our game faces #MatchForAfrica.’

After the announcement, Savannah’s friend Melissa helped calm her nerves by reminding her what really counts — her tennis outfit.

The mother-of-two shared a screenshot Melissa’s text message, which reads: ‘So said I can’t be there. You are going to be amazing. Do not even think about your shots.

‘Proven fact – the outfit is what matters most. Black manicure is next, then a braid of some sort. that is the trinity you should be focusing on.’

‘Priority setting from lifelong bestie essential when facing athletic challenge of a lifetime #Roger #MatchforAfrica #intraining,’ she captioned the photo.

Savananh hinted about the match last week when she posted a video of herself practicing her back at an indoor tennis court, writing: ‘In training… STAY TUNED.’

In the video, she is donning a black tennis dress and black sneakers, and her hair is pulled back into a tight ponytail.

The mother-of-two’s love for Roger is well known, and many commenters correctly guessed that she was training for a mixed double’s match with the star.

‘I think Roger would be impressed,’ one fan wrote, while another added: ‘Roger – she’s coming for you.’

Although her mind is undoubtedly on tennis, Savannah and her husband are also gearing up to cheer on the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl this Sunday.

Over the weekend, Savannah shared a sweet photo of herself posed with Mike while they modeled matching Eagles hats and tees.

‘We are soooooo ready @Eagles,’ she wrote.
