Scarlett Moffatt bashed for sister’s term-time trip to NYC

She rose to fame on Gogglebox before the nation took her to their hearts during I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.

But Scarlett Moffatt, 25, has come under fire from fans for taking her 11-year-old sister Ava on holiday to New York during term-time. 

Scarlett jetted off with Ava for a ‘sisters weekend’ on Thursday and has been excitedly sharing snaps of the siblings eating a rainbow breakfast, watching the Lion King musical and attending RuPaul’s DragCon.

But the photos received a lukewarm response from Scarlett’s social media followers, who criticised her for taking Ava, who has just started secondary school, out of classes during the first week back.

One said: ‘I don’t know if you know but for a schoolchild the weekend starts after school on a Friday’

Another follower wrote: ‘Every day a child misses at school matters and if she’s just started secondary then it’s very important.’

But the star did have some support with one fan writing: ‘Travel and learning about other cultures is some of the best education any one could hope for.’

Parents can face a fine of up to £120 if they take a child out of school without permission. 

In her professional life Scarlett is rumoured to be returning to the I’m A Celebrity jungle as one of the hosts for spin-off show Extra Camp.

News of her latest presenting gig comes just weeks after the star made her debut on the channel 4 programme Streetmate.

The reality star followed in Davina McCall’s footsteps in the show, who shot to fame in the late Nineties setting up strangers on the street on dates.

It was briefly brought back in 2007 on ITV2 with Holly Willoughby at the helm, but has returned for a longer stint after a special last year.

Showing off her own dating game, the star has also recently rekindled her romance with boyfriend Luke Crodden.
