School bus driver dies as it crashes with lorry 

A school bus driver has died after a coach carrying 13 children hit a lorry head-on this morning. 

The collision occurred at 7.45am today close to the Maryculter Bridge on the B979 outside Aberdeen and the collision also involved a car.

Police Scotland confirmed that thirteen pupils from Lathallan School in Johnshaven were on the bus at the time of the incident, but none have sustained any serious injuries. 

But the bus driver has perished and his vehicle finished up on the wrong side of the road with the Audi the road side.

The male drivers of the red Audi A4 and white DAF lorry have been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with non- life threatening injuries.

The South Deeside road will remain closed for the time being between Leggart Terrace and Netherley Road (B979) plus Milltimber Brae.

The Met Office has an ice warning in place for many parts of Britain, including Aberdeenshire, warning of slippery stretches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
