Schoolgirl, 11, fighting for life after knife attack

An 11-year-old schoolgirl is fighting for her life in hospital after being found with multiple stab wounds at a house in the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services in Wolverhampton were called by a concerned neighbour just before 1am on Friday following reports of a disturbance.

Police discovered the youngster inside the address with multiple stab wounds including a serious head injury.

A 51-year-old man, who is related to the victim, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in hospital receiving treatment for a cut hand.

Meanwhile, the injured girl is battling for her life and is described as being in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

A woman in her 80s suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder during the incident and is also being treated in hospital.

West Midlands Police said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the stabbing.

The property has been cordoned off to allow forensic experts to conduct examinations of the scene.

Superintendent Harvi Khatkar, of Wolverhampton police, said: ‘This is an extremely distressing incident and we are working to establish exactly what has happened.

‘We fully understand the impact that this will have on the community.

‘But we do believe this is an isolated incident, and we are not looking for anyone else.

‘Extra officers will be out patrolling the area to offer reassurance to residents.’
