Not even a downpour of rain could dampen the atmosphere at Schoolies, as the first night came to an end. 

Thousands of teenagers took to the beach and the streets of Surfers Paradise, before heavy rain saw many fleeing with smiles on their faces.

While the downpour may have left the night to a soggy end, many teens were spotted making the best of the weather.

More than 20,000 teenagers are expected to descend on the region to cap off their final year of schooling.

While more rain is predicted for the rest of the celebrations, Schoolies party goers appear in good spirits for the remainder of the week.
