Scientists claim they are just two years away from developing a flu vaccination that will last for life.
Australian doctors have joined forces with international medical professionals to work on lifelong protection from illness and disease, in the form of a super immunisation.
Professor Tobi Kollman says the shot of a lifetime is closer to being a reality than some might expect.
‘This is not something we’re saying ”we’re dreaming that this might be possible”, we know it’s possible,’ he told 7NEWS.

The first plan of attack is the creation of flu jab which would last a lifetime.
‘The funding is the key obstacle and the only remaining obstacle,’ Professor Kollman said.
Professor Kollman said we would see the vaccine within five years, 10 years at a maximum.
He warned the landmark vaccine would be easier to treat children than adults, as determined by their previous health experiences.
Mum Ruth Thornton just vaccinated her 18-month-old son with another important shot.
‘It’s not nice (receiving a vaccination) but at the same token I know how important it is and it never puts me off,’ she told 7NEWS.

The revelation of a life-changing vaccine comes as Australians are urged to get their yearly shot for the flu season.
Australia’s nightmare flu season has killed almost as many people in the first few months of this year as in all of 2018, with fatalities likely to increase.
The latest report from NSW Health shows 37 people have already died compared to the death of 43 people last year, with the department warning of a 60 per cent increase people contracting the flu in the past week.
The news comes as Australia has entered the flu season early with 13,430 recorded cases, compared to 4,092 in total at the same time last year.
The increased detection of influenza is set to surpass the 17,423 figure recorded for the whole of 2018.
