Scott Morrison introduces new law that would see strawberry needle copycats jailed for 10 YEARS to stop ‘idiots going into shopping centres and sticking pins in fruit’
Prime Minister Scott Morrison is set to introduce a law which would see copycat fruit saboteurs jailed for 10 years.
At least 13 people have gone public about finding needles in their strawberries since a man was rushed to hospital on September 9.
Copycats have been placing needles inside bananas and apples, according to customers claiming to have found them.

Mr Morrison said those responsible were ‘idiots’ and called for stronger legislation.
‘Some idiot, for his own reasons, or her own reasons, has engaged in an act of sabotage,’ he said.
‘Now any idiot who thinks they can go out into a shopping centre and start sticking pins in fruit and thinks this is some sort of lark or something.
‘That sort of behaviour is reckless and under the provision we will be seeking to introduce swiftly, that type of behaviour would carry a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.’
Mr Morrison said he has spoken to the Attorney-General to consider changing the law.
‘It is important to send a very clear message to ensure that we have the right penalties and have the right offences that are in place to ensure that we protect against these sorts of things,’ Mr Morrison said.
‘It’s not a joke, it’s not funny. You are putting the livelihoods of hard-working Australians at risk.’
