Scottish fans burnt England flags after a day of drinking as they descended on Germany for Euro 2024.

The ‘Tartan Army’ were seen trying to set fire to the white and red flag after a drink binge in Old Market, Cologne.

Tomorrow Scotland will face Switzerland for their second match of the tournament.

The nation lost their first game in Group A after they were trounced by hosts Germany 5-1.

It comes after organisers were forced to cancel all events in the official fan zone in the west German city.

The decision came after forecasters warned of five centimetre hailstones, leaving the fan-zone in Heumarkt, the Public Viewing at the Tanzbrunnen and the Football Experience all closed for the entire day.

Pictures showed Scots bracing the wet and gloomy weather while filling the city’s streets and waving the Saltire – Scotland’s distinctive blue and white crossed flag.

But the damp failed to get everyone spirit’s down, with one excited kilt-wearing fan shown waving a flag while topless.

The severe weather also saw the European Championship Rhine ferry suspended.

In a statement, organisers said: ‘Due to an official storm warning from late morning with expected heavy rain, hail and heavy gusts of wind, all events and functions of the Host City Cologne associated with the European Championships have to be cancelled for today.’

The German Weather Service forecast ‘severe thunderstorms with (extreme) storm potential’ in Cologne tonight.

England are next scheduled to play Denmark at 5pm on Thursday
