Screenwriter and playwright Nathan Louis Jackson – whose credits include Marvel series Luke Cage and Shameless – dies at age 44

Screenwriter, playwright and producer Nathan Louis Jackson has died at age 44.

Jackson, whose screenwriting credits include the Marvel show Luke Cage and the drama series Shameless, passed at his home in Lenexa, Kansas on August 22, 2023, his wife Megan Mascorro-Jackson informed The Hollywood Reporter.

Jackson suffered from heart issues, and in 2019 he had an aortic dissection, his wife told the outlet. His family have decided against having an autopsy done to learn his cause of death.

Jackson penned two episodes of Luke Cage, the series which starred Mike Colter as the titular superhero and ran from 2016 to 2018. He also worked as a co-producer and executive story editor of the show.

‘The series makes a bigger, grander statement about African American men and how we view them,’ he previously told The Kansas City Star. ‘It is undoubtedly a Black show. But at the same time, it’s just a superhero show. We deal with something all the other superheroes deal with. We just do it from a different standpoint.’
