Seal charges up a beach to steal a fish on a fishing line

  • Friends were fishing at Browns Beach when the bizarre event occurred
  • The seal was unsuccessful in its pursuit and put on a sulky display in protest
  • The group eventually offered the fish to the seal, but it was turned down

A rather ambitious and hungry seal has been caught on camera hotly pursuing a fish being reeled up a beach in South Australia.

The slippery mammal was filmed charging through the waves before, without hesitation, bounding onto the sand and chasing the catch towards a bunch of humoured anglers.

But after flopping its way up the beach at notable speed, the fish was wrangled out of the seal’s reach before it could get its flippers on it.

In clear disappointment, the seal is rendered motionless at the realisation of losing its potential next feed.

The upset sea animal then looks around, seemingly unable to comprehend the robbery that just occurred before its eyes.

Turning and slugging back to the ocean, the seal then sulkily nose dives into the waves before swimming away.

A group of friends were on a camping trip in Innes National Park when they decided on the fishing expedition at Browns Beach.

The hungry seal surfed the waves into the shore as it chased the fish towards the group of anglers

The camerawoman, Alicia Giglio, revealed the seal had done the same thing twice prior before anyone decided to get the camera out, Nine news reports.

The group tried to reward the seal for its valiant effort, but apparently it lost interest after the chase was over.

‘For all those asking “why didn’t we give him the fish”, We tried to give him a fish, but he refused to take it from us,’ Ms Giglio said.

‘(The seal) wanted the thrill of the chase. He caught plenty of fish in the water.’
