Seattle Seahawks’ Pete Carroll responds to the report that Russell Wilson wanted him fired

‘I’m always going to hang with them, I’m never going to leave them’: Pete Carroll responds to the report that Russell Wilson wanted him fired by saying he’s ‘good’ but Seattle Seahawks head coach doesn’t deny the story

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll addressed the report that his former quarterback and now member of the Denver Broncos, Russell Wilson, attempted to get him fired, while speaking to NBC.

Several days after a report emerged from The Athletic that Wilson attempted to get Carroll and general manager John Schneider fired before being shockingly traded to the Denver Broncos.

‘My response to that is a similar response that’s always been with the guys that I’ve coached,’ Carroll said Tuesday.

‘I’m always going to hang with them, and I’m never going to leave them. I’m going to be there at the end, with all of the good stuff and all of the bad stuff. I’m going to still be there. That’s it. I’m hanging. It doesn’t matter who the guy is.

‘If you look at all of the guys that have come to our program, not just back to the college days, but just here at Seattle, regardless of what has happened or has taken place or things that have been said at all, if you hang with them, it all comes back around.

‘I like to demonstrate that faith in the relationship and the depth of what we did together and hang through whatever the growth challenges bring along the way, so I’m good.’

Carroll didn’t deny the report, however.

While the Seahawks declined comment to The Athletic, Wilson’s attorney denied the report, calling it ‘entirely fabricated.’

ESPN previously reported that the Seahawks had become dysfunctional in the months leading up to Wilson’s trade. According to the September piece, Wilson wanted out of Seattle because he thought that Carroll was holding him back.

‘From my vantage, the divorce was inevitable and was many years in the making,’ former Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin told ESPN. ‘The reasons are multiple, but ultimately, I think it comes down to a difference of pursuits.’

In his first season in Denver, Wilson drew questions from players, coaches and staff over the quarterback’s level of control within the franchise, according to The Athletic.

Wilson who is coming off one of the worst years of his career, after his first season in Denver denied there being any truth to the report on Friday in a tweet he posted.

‘I love Pete and he was a father figure to me and John believed in me and drafted me as well. I never wanted them fired. All any of us wanted was to win… l’ll always have respect for them and love for Seattle.’
