Selena Gomez, 32, thinks she’s ‘too old for the pop-star life’ in candid career confession

Selena Gomez has revealed she sees her ‘pop-star life’ chapter coming to a close in a candid new interview with Variety.

Gomez, 32, kicked off her music career 16 years ago and since then has gone on tour and become the recipient of two Grammy nominations.

But now the Emilia Pérez star believes she has aged out of the ‘pop star’ life.

During a chat with Saoirse Ronan for the publication’s Actors on Actors series, the multi-hyphenate opened up about her music career and how she believes her strength lies with acting.

‘I definitely think my strong suit is probably acting. But one thing I’m proud of in music is being able to tell a story — my favorite songs are mostly ballads, and they’re very transparent and honest,’ she admitted.

‘But I think I might be a little too old for the pop-star life. I’m genuinely so happy to just be in this new era of my life, because in a lot of ways, it’s just the beginning.’

Ronan then praised Selena’s singing and acting skills, particularly her ‘solo’ in her new film Emilia Perez.

‘That means a lot to me,’ Selena replied. ‘I love storytelling, and my music career is separate. However, I don’t see that being a forever thing.’

Ronan asked if she was referring to her music career, prompting Selena to bring up her boyfriend, music producer Benny Blanco.

Selena explained she doesn’t ever see music leaving her life due to her partner’s occupation.

‘I’ll always have music in my life because my partner’s a musician, and I love having moments to do it for fun. It can be a little vulnerable when you’re putting yourself out there versus escaping into a character.’

Indeed, Selena’s acting has been generating praise as of late.

She received two Golden Globe nominations, one for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture for Emilia Perez and the other Best Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Only Murders in the Building.

The Spanish language film received a total of 10 nominations on Monday morning. The award show airs on January 5, 2025.
