Selena Gomez celebrates a year since making her musical comeback with release of her album Rare: ‘So much has happened’

Selena Gomez took a hiatus of five years before gracing her fans with more music.

But the former Disney Channel star made her musical comeback with her third solo studio album last year.

She celebrated a year since the release of her album Rare, as she took to her Instagram Story on Sunday to thank her 202million followers for welcoming her back.

One year later: Selena Gomez celebrated a year since the release of her album Rare, as she took to her Instagram Story Sunday to thank her 202million followers for welcoming her back

The 28-year-old posted a photo with some fans, writing: ‘Can’t believe it’s been a year since Rare was released. So much has happened but wanted to let you know I love you guys.’

Rare was released January 10, 2020, becoming her first No. 1, after dropping the singles Lose You to Love Me, Look At Her Now and the title track.

She reflected on her year last month, telling Billboard: ‘There’s this bittersweet feeling, of course. I would much rather the world be in a better place.

‘Yet at the same time, it was so beautiful to see that my music could hopefully bring some people some sort of joy in the midst of it.’

Gomez added: ‘It’s nice to know that Rare became what it became for me. And obviously I would like to say that it was the best album that I’ve released so far. But that doesn’t mean that I’m not gonna challenge myself for the next.’

She previously released her second solo studio album Revival in October of 2015, after dropping her debut album Stars Dance in July of 2013.

Back in October of 2019, she explained to Apple Music why she waited so long to start making music again.

The Spring Breakers star said: ‘I spent years living in fear of speaking up or saying things and I guess that’s just the people-pleaser in me. And there was a huge moment where I just stopped caring, and I can’t tell you when that moment was, I really can’t.’

She added: ‘I didn’t want to release anything that was mine because I didn’t feel like it was the right timing. I learned a lot from the last album and I wanted to take what I’ve learned and turn it into something even better.

‘I’m glad I did, because this year everything kind of just started pouring out of me. I started saying things in a way that I’ve never been able to articulate them before, so it was actually exactly when it needed to happen.’

Gomez also released Rare Beauty, a makeup line inspired by the album, back in September, recently launching the Stay Vulnerable Collection.
