Self-proclaimed geeks gather for Oz Comic-Con as superfans dazzle with incredible costumes

The ultimate pop culture convention Oz Comic-Con has gathered thousands of superfans dazzled with incredible costumes. 

Cosplayers of all ages graced Sydney’s International Convention Centre this weekend dressed in their favourite super heroes, film characters, celebrities, anime and video game characters.

Popular costumes at the cosplay convention included die-hard Marvel and DC comic book fans dressed in iconic characters from Catwoman to Batman to Deadpool and Emma Frost from X-Men.

Dominating the scene this weekend included a crowd of Star Wars fanatics including a Praetorian Guard from The Last Jedi, a zombie Stormtrooper and mandalorian warrior Verd Fett. 

Pop culture enthusiasts weren’t afraid to shy away from Marvel and DC superheros and villains and came dressed in a variety of other well-known film characters including Lara Croft from Tomb Raider, Pennywise the clown from It and Disney characters. 

Others weren’t afraid to think outside the box and expanded popular culture to iconic techno DJs such as Deadmau5, Marshmello and Daft Punk. 

Many dressed as anime characters from series such as the Japanese animated series Love Live in vibrant coloured wigs and costumes.

The Oz Comic-Con returned to Sydney for the seventh year in a row, with pop culture fans able to see close to 50 featured speakers at the event.

Fans were provided with the chance to meet Cary Elwes from The Princess Bride, Nikolai Nikolaeff, best known for his role as Vladimir Ranskahov from Marvel/Netflix television series Daredevil and Aly Michalka from iZombie.

Pop culture enthusiasts will be able to play live interactive games, have meet and greet sessions with some of the speakers, participate in cosplay costume competitions and meets ups exclusively for Star Wars and Love Live fans.
