Selfish Australian woman reveals why she never wants to have children says it is too expensive

A young couple has revealed all the reasons they refuse to have children – from financial concerns to accomplishing other life goals.

Indianna Knight, from Sydney, is content with being a ‘dog parent’ and ‘cool aunt’ for the rest of her life.

The 25-year-old professional makeup artist has admitted that she’s ‘selfish’ and would rather go out for a fancy dinner and take a nap whenever she wanted instead of worrying about toddlers and babysitters.

Indianna shared her husband’s on the same page, and he’d ‘done his fair share’ being the eldest of four and helping raise his siblings.

A young couple has revealed all the reasons they refuse to have children – from financial concerns to accomplishing other life goals

1. Children are expensive

‘We are not against parents – I fully believe you can have a fulfilled, wealthy life with kids,’ Indianna said.

‘I look at my friends with kids and think they’re doing an incredible job, but it’s hard enough to afford normal life, how do you afford kids as well?’

The Australian Institute of Family Studies revealed that raising two children on a middle-class income can cost up to $960 a week.

2. Personality clashes

‘I have never been a kid person,’ the make up artist said. ‘I’m that awkward person that just doesn’t know what to do with them.’

‘I really dread people handing me their kids – I’ve never wanted them,’ she added.

Indianna also revealed that her husband is the eldest of four children and spent his childhood and early adulthood caring for his siblings.

‘He’s done his time, he doesn’t want to do it again,’ she said.

3. She has a business and is very ambitious

‘You can be ambitious and have kids, but my business is my baby,’ she said. ‘It takes up so much time and energy and stress.’

Indianna said she ‘couldn’t’ put in an equal amount of effort into her business and raising a child.

4. Selfish reasons

Indianna has openly admitted to being ‘selfish’ about the way she spends her time.

‘I’m happy to admit that, and I would rather say I’m selfish and choose to not have kids because of it, than have them and still want to be selfish.’

She added, ‘I want to take a nap and go out to dinner whenever I want and not have to worry about organising a babysitter.’

‘My husband and I are both on the very same page, and I’ll openly admit we’re putting ourselves first.’

5. Children are noisy

The Sydney woman does not want to deal with having ‘extra noise’ in her house.

‘I am such an introverted homebody and I just love sitting at home in the quiet,’ she revealed.

Indianna also said that it was a very personal choice and that she didn’t judge other people for their family planning.

‘There’s no reason to get frustrated with it or annoyed because you disagree, my philosophy is to just let people live their life.’

Many agreed with Indianna’s opinions.

‘Same! It’s hard because a lot of people think you’re in a phase or will try to change your mind, when it’s okay to not want them!’ a woman wrote.

‘Honestly, how are people affording kids?’ another asked.

‘I have too much trauma and don’t want to impact kids with that,’ a woman said. ‘And, I love sleep!’

While others couldn’t see her point of view.

‘I will never understand the point of getting married unless you’re going to have kids,’ a man wrote.

‘It’s different with your own kids,’ a mum wrote. ‘You won’t get it.’
