Selling Sunset’s Chrishell Stause attempts Australian accent on The Project ahead of debut on iconic Aussie soap Neighbours – and there’s one word she gets very wrong

Chrishell Stause gave the notoriously difficult Australian accent a try when she appeared on The Project on Tuesday.

The Selling Sunset star, who has landed a role on Aussie soap Neighbours, was challenged to say ‘I love The Project’ by the show’s panel.

The 43-year-old gave it a go, but admitted she wasn’t particularly skilled in that department.

It was terrible but you made the are promo!’ co-host Sarah Harris joked.

‘I would have been fired immediately. I can’t do an Australian accent. You’re all safe. I’m playing an American,’ Chrishell explained.

Elsewhere in the interview, she badly mispronounced Erinsborough, the fictional suburb where the soap is set.

The star called it ‘Erins-borrow’ instead of ‘Erins-burra’ which Aussies are more likely to say.

The reality star did much better on Melbourne, the city in Victoria where the show is filmed.

She correctly pronounced it ‘Mel-bin’ rather than ‘Mel-bourne’ which many Americans do.

‘Congratulations on how you said Melbourne!’ The Project cast told her, genuinely impressed.

Chrishell, who recently tied the knot to Australian musician G Flip for a second time, is currently Down Under to appear on a reboot of the iconic Australian soap opera Neighbours.

'I would have been fired immediately. I can't do an Australian accent. You're all safe. I'm playing an American,' Chrishell explained

‘I am honoured and excited to join such a beloved and iconic show,’ she revealed in a recent statement.

‘Coming from the world of soaps in the US, it’s back to my first love in the entertainment industry.

‘They pitched me an idea for a character, and I was immediately excited to figure out a way to make it happen. Ramsay Street here I come!’

The show said in a post on its Instagram account in May: ‘Chrishell Stause is coming to Ramsay Street’ as she’s playing a new character named Yasmine Shields.

Yasmine is described by the show as ‘a glamorous and successful businesswoman in pursuit of an exciting new opportunity.’

On The Project, she clarified that the character is a lighting director.

She was ‘set to arrive on set in July,’ the show said, adding that ‘fans can expect intrigue and surprises – and many implications for the residents of Ramsay Street.’
