Sergio Aguero scores on his return for Manchester City in 7-on-7 tournament – three years after retiring from professional soccer with a heart condition

Sergio Aguero showed a flash of his past self by scoring a goal at The Soccer Tournament – a 7-on-7 competition – in Cary, North Carolina.

On Wednesday night, the Manchester City legend showed he had not skipped a beat with his scoring ability as his Aguero Team took on La Mexicana Express.

The play started with the Argentine receiving the ball on a turn on his team’s side of the pitch. He then plays a one-two with his teammate to split their defenders.

After finding the space, Aguero took a touch to settle the ball and another to push it forward before striking it with his right foot.

With a centerback blocking the goalkeeper’s site, Aguero curled the ball over the defender and into the goal. The former Premier League star pumped his fist and pointed at the camera to celebrate.

Aguero retired from professional soccer in 2021 due to a heart condition but returned in Manchester City colors for the star-studded tournament.

During his time with the Premier League Champions, Aguero scored 184 goals in 275 games. He also made 101 caps for Argentina and scored 41 goals for his nation.

Aguero helped City win five league titles, an FA Cup and three Community Shields. He was also part of the Argentine Roster that won the Copa America in 2021.

While Aguero is the only ex-City player on his team for the tournament, the English club is visibly involved with his participation in North Carolina.

Aguero’s team entered the field in the club’s 2024-25 kits, and a display behind one of the fields features the Premier League trophy and a picture of Aguero’s iconic title-winning goal vs. QPR.

The Soccer Tournament, in its second year, awards a $1million winner-take-all prize in both its men’s and women’s brackets.
