Sergio Busquets will base his future at Barcelona on MESSI

Sergio Busquets will base his future at Barcelona on LIONEL MESSI… with the two friends planning to ‘spend their final playing years together’ either at Barcelona or Inter Miami if the Argentina legend moves from PSG

  • The pair played together at Barcelona from Busquets’ arrival in 2007
  • Messi and the Barcelona captain have a number of similar offers from clubs
  • If Messi decides to extend his contract at PSG, Busquets will likely extend deal

Sergio Busquets will base his future plans around those of former team-mate Lionel Messi, according to reports.

The Blaugrana veteran, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is said to have been offered a contract extension by the Spanish club, but is waiting for news from the Argentine legend before committing to another year at the Catalan club.

Busquets, who has been at the club since his spell as a youth player in 2007, is great friends with the famed No 10, and has similar options on the table.

As a result, Busquets’ decision over where he will play next season is an emotional one, rather than one driven by financial concerns.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Busquets and his family have been planning to sync up his final playing years with those of Messi’s, and have previously discussed them at length.

Both players have attracted the interest of David Beckham-owned MLS outfit Inter Miami and Messi has recently been linked to a return to the Camp Nou should he wish to wrap up his time at Paris Saint-Germain.

Was Messi to stay for another season at the Parisian club, Busquets is said to be interested in extended his contract with Barcelona all the same.

It was previously reported that Busquets had rejected a £17million-a-year offer from Cristiano Ronaldo’s club Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

But Al-Hilal, who are reportedly putting together an offer to tempt Messi to the tune of ‘£194million-per season’, could be a target should the pair wish to join the Saudi Pro League.

The 34-year-old could be waiting for some time to make a decision on his future for some time if he wants to make one in tandem with his former team-mate.

Sportsmail reported that PSG are ‘having second thoughts’ about extending the World Cup winner’s contract at the end of the season, and there is no clear indication as to which of his numerous options he would plump for during the upcoming transfer window.
