Sergio Ramos ‘was victim of a shocking home raid while playing with Sevilla in the Champions League’ as burglars ‘terrorised the defenders’ four children before leaving with luxury watches and jewellery’

Former Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos was reportedly the victim of a horrifying home raid while he was away on Champions League duty with Sevilla last week.

The 37-year-old, who has amassed a career collection of 28 trophies as a player, was playing against French side Lens in the premier European competition when crooks broke into his house, according to the Sun.

The thieves bypassed the footballer’s alarm system at his house in the La Alegria country estate in Andalusia, southern Spain, before ‘terrorising’ his four young children, who had been looked after by two nannies, the report goes, saying they were all left unharmed.

Ramos’ wife – the journalist Pilar Rubio – was not present in the property as she was away working.

The crooks ended up leaving with luxury watches, jewellery, designer clothes and cash, the report adds, with police opening an investigation into the incident.

Ramos had only just recently signed for Sevilla – his boyhood club where he started his career in 1996 – after leaving French side PSG on a free transfer.

And he and his family had only just moved to their property in Bollullos de la Mitacion, a city located near Seville.

Ramos and his wife Rubio began dating in 2012 before getting married in June 2019.

He becomes the latest footballers to be targeted by robbers in Spain in recent years. Last year, former Barcelona star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was victim of a break-in as he and his wife were forced to lie on the floor in front of their terrified children while robbers ransacked their property.

The thieves made off with jewels after accessing the player’s safe – and left him with a broken jaw after hitting him on the chin with an iron bar.

In the same year, Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski had his £59,000 watch stolen outside the club’s training ground while signing autographs.

And in November 2021, Ansu Fati – also of Barcelona at the time – had his home burgled while he was downstairs watching the club play against Espanyol.

In 2018, there were a trio of Barcelona stars targeted by thieves. Midfielder Philippe Coutinho returned home to discover his home had been burgled, while a group of men broke into the house of defender Gerard Pique while he was preparing to play for Spain at the World Cup.

Later on in that year, thieves smashed their way inside left-back Jordi Alba’s property while his family were inside.

In his heyday, Ramos was regarded as one of the world’s best defenders who played 671 times for Real Madrid, winning six league titles and the Champions League four times before ending his 16-year stay by joining PSG in 2021.
