‘Serial killer’ hitman who murdered flashy Sydney gangster fronts court for drug charges

A hitman already serving three life sentences for three different Sydney murders  fronted court again on Wednesday – this time to answer drug charges and concealing mobile phones when behind bars.

Siar Munshizada, 33, was busted with contraband at two jails – Long Bay Correctional Centre and Silverwater Correctional Complex, in 2020 as well as last year.

In what was a busy day out of his cell, the Afghanistan born criminal first appeared virtually at Burwood Local Court.

Munshizada pleaded guilty to a raft of charges, including possessing a prohibited drug while in detention and possessing a mobile and sim card while in detention.

He was fined a total $2800 for the offences, with the court told the drug located in his cell on June 26 last year was buprenorphine, which is commonly used to wean users off heroin.

During the search, the prohibited items were found hidden hidden inside a styrofoam cup of dried noodles.

‘Upon inspection, officers removed a white label which revealed a hole in the side of the packaging,’ a fact sheet read, according to the Daily Telegraph.

‘Inside was part of a blue latex glove containing an amount of orange coloured buprenorphine wafers which were wrapped in plastic cling wrap, along with two plastic bags containing an unknown quantity of tablets, and a green coloured powder.

‘Officers counted 108 wafers of buprenorphine, but due to fear of contamination the other two bags were not opened. There was a combined gross weight of 3.2 grams.’

A few days later – on July 1 – staff searched Munshizada’s cell again at Silverwater and this time found a black Samsung mobile phone and charger hidden inside a sandwich press.

Munshizada’s court date on Wednesday then moved to Waverley Local Court, where he appeared via video link to answer charges from 2020 in relation to using or possessing a mobile phone in a place of detention without permission.

The triple murderer was handed a six-month prison term for his conduct at Long Bay by Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge – but that is unlikely to bother Munshizada given his triple life sentence.

In December last year, Munshizada was outed as one the ‘serial killers’ responsible for the death of mafia gangster Pasquale Barbaro.

Munshizada and Abuzar Sultani were sentenced by Supreme Court Justice Des Fagan, who labelled the men ‘serial killers’ and felt they possess a ‘depraved gratification for killing’.

Lawyers for Munshizada and Sultani had made a last ditch bid to the Court of Criminal Appeal to stop their identities being shared – which was ultimately unsuccessful.

The court heard both men ‘shared the arrogant and immoral belief they had the entitlement to ‘extinguish the life of another person’.

The duo’s assassination spree which ended the lives of the three men took place in Sydney over a few months in 2016.

Barbaro as well as two bikies, Michael Davey and Mehmet Yilmaz, were all killed by the deadly duo, who were part of a gang known at the time as ‘Sultani’s Crew, named after their leader, Abuzar ‘Afghani Abs’ Sultani.

Davey, a Rebels gang enforcer known as ‘Ruthless’ was gunned down in the driveway of his Kingswood home, in Sydney’s west, after receiving a call to go outside and meet someone just after midnight on March 30, 2016.

Yilmaz, 29, was then shot multiple times as he returned to his car after visiting the home of a Comanchero bikie on September 9, 2016.

The drug dealer staggered behind his car and curled up in the gutter before the gunman got out, stood over him and shot him in the head at close range.

Barbaro was also gunned down in Earlwood, in Sydney’s inner-west, on November 14.

Sultani and Munshizada first met in prison in 2008 or 2009 when they were about 20 years old, and bonded after discovering they both had originally emigrated to Australia from Afghanistan.
