Serviceton, Victoria: Why this three-bedroom house is on the market for just $65,000

A house nestled on state lines which sits on two hectares of land just hit the market for $65,000, but its new owners are going to need to ‘put some elbow grease into it’.

The three-bedroom home on 8-10 Penny Street in Serviceton, Victoria, offers ‘cheap country living’ 16-minutes drive from Bordertown in SA and three-and-a-half hours from the closest city.

Boasting spacious rooms, a traditional woodfire heater and a central bathroom inside the property also includes a large shed and rainwater storage in the backyard.

Its most ‘notable feature’ is the 2,100m2 land it sit on which can be divided up into two 1,000m2 blocks should the new owner wish to sell one.

At such a low price however there is one significant drawback – mainly that the functionality of the property’s utilities are ‘unknown’.

Buyers have been asked to imagine the property’s ‘potential’ instead of its current state.

‘PLEASE NOTE – This property is in need of some work so if you’re a handyman and willing to put some elbow grease into it, then this one might be for you,’ the listing states.

‘The working condition of the electrical, plumbing and appliances are unknown and will remain so at settlement.’

Out the back there is a gateway which leads to the local children’s park which is not far from the town’s schools and supermarkets.

Inside the tiled kitchen has ‘enough room for a double fridge and even a chest freezer’ and the bathroom includes a spacious vanity.

Several ceiling fans are also scattered around other carpeted rooms in the house to combat the summer’s sweltering heat in the bushlands.

Ray White agent Hayden Obst said that these drawbacks were not enough to scare buyers away because it only took 90 minutes to go under contract

Ray White agent Hayden Obst said that these drawbacks were not enough to scare buyers away because it only took 90 minutes to go under contract

The estimated calculation for weekly home loan repayments over 30 years is only $311 for first home buyers and Ray White agent Hayden Obst said that buyer interest was high from the get go.

It only took 90 minutes for the house to go under contract after it was listed and Mr Obst claims that he is still getting offers in case the initial contract falls through.

He told 7News that the offers are coming in from buyers from across the country and investment groups who are keen to scoop it up.

The house has not been lived in for 12 months but the agent assured that it is ‘liveable just the way it is’.
